Many men and women have worked hard to shed significant amounts of weight with diet and exercise or even weight loss surgery. Although it is time to feel proud of their accomplishments, many feel embarrassed instead because of the appearance of loose, excess skin at the abdomen, arms, chest, thighs, and neck. The elasticity of skin becomes compromised during the course of weight gain and weight loss with resultant excess skin that is unable to recoil. It can be frustrating to have this undesired side effect of weight loss which can cause difficulties fitting into clothes, problems with exercising, and itchy rashes at skin folds. Dr. Ravi has a specific interest in working with this population. He looks forward to helping them complete the final step in their transformation by surgically removing excess skin and contouring their bodies into a new, sleek look!
Most Common Concerns:
Dr. Ravi offers multiple combinations of surgeries for body contouring after dramatic weight loss. His intention is to improve the overall shape and figure by tightening the excess skin and removing stubborn fat pockets. Some individuals require multiple, staged procedures to achieve their desired look. In these cases, it would be best to start from the lower body and work upwards to the face and neck.
Dr. Ravi offers a number of plastic surgery procedures that can be performed in combination or over a series of treatments to tighten the skin and shape a slimmer contour.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Ravi, he will have a detailed discussion about your realistic goals and will formulate a unique plan to fit your needs.
Anyone who is in overall good health and has lost a significant amount of weight and has made a commitment to maintain that weight, lifestyle, and dietary habits may be an excellent candidate for surgery. Patients should be able to demonstrate a steady weight for six months prior to body contouring surgery.

All patients will be seen approximately two weeks prior to surgery for their pre-operative appointment. At that time, surgical consents are signed, photos are taken, and an informational packet is provided, which details instructions for before and after surgery.
The time Dr. Ravi requires to perform body contouring after dramatic weight loss varies, depending on the number and types of procedures the patient elects.
These are typically performed as outpatient procedures under either general or local anesthesia (determined by the surgical area), at a credentialed hospital with a board certified anesthesiologist. An extensive procedure may require an overnight stay in the hospital.
Recovery will also depend on the number and type of procedures elected. In most cases, it is reasonable to plan to stay home and rest for one to two weeks. More extensive surgeries understandably require more time for better healing and outcomes.
Plastic surgery following weight loss involves several different techniques and procedures. Each of these is designed to produce the most natural-looking and pleasing results, but there will be some scarring after recovery.
Scars will fade over time – a process that can be assisted through proper aftercare – but there will be some evidence of surgery when certain areas of your body are exposed. With clothes on, however, your body should look entirely natural, healthy, and more radiant following post-weight-loss body contouring.
Surgical procedures such as tummy tuck, liposuction, and body lift are performed under anesthetic. You should not experience any discomfort during the procedure itself. Following plastic surgery, some bruising, swelling, and discomfort are to be expected. These things can be addressed with the use of compression garments and pain medications provided by our office. Taking several short walks during the day can help as well. We will provide you with specific pain management instructions before your procedure, along with additional support, as needed, during your follow-up visits.
During post-weight-loss plastic surgery, a significant amount of excess skin can be removed. The remaining skin is then redraped and tightened to help produce the most pleasing definitions. During your initial consultation, we will assess the amount of loose and sagging skin you have throughout your body and provide honest information about how much we can safely remove from your frame.
Small weight gain will likely have little effect on your results. Substantial weight gain will undo the results you have obtained through surgery. This is one of many compelling reasons to take steps to maintain a healthy weight following your procedure.
The tried-and-true methods of weight management, diet, and exercise, are the best ways to maintain your results following post-weight-loss body contouring. Several dietary options can help a person maintain a healthy weight, choose one you can stick to. If you struggle with making healthy dietary choices, work with a nutritionist who can guide you toward the best solutions for your particular needs and desires.
Exercise should occur daily for ideal weight management. The CDC exercise guidelines for adults is at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity every week. Strength training should take place for every muscle group at least twice weekly as well. If you struggle to find an exercise routine that feels good to you, consider hiring a personal trainer who can help you develop a regimen you will stick to.
