Like many, you have made the resolution to finally get the body you have long wanted and are considering liposuction in the New Year. If so, read on as we discuss useful information that will prepare you and your body for liposuction!
Besides making the consultation and setting a surgery date, here are a few things to keep in mind.
While many men and women here in the Houston area are able to benefit from liposuction, not everyone is the perfect candidate. Liposuction alone will not garner great results if you have less than good skin elasticity. Age, weight fluctuation, and genetics all have an influence on skin elasticity. During your initial consultation, Dr. Ravi will perform a personalized examination to ensure that your skin has enough “spring” to it and help determine whether or not you are a candidate for liposuction. If you, unfortunately, do not have good skin elasticity, the concern with doing liposuction alone, without skin removal, is that you will be left with loose, hanging skin.
When liposuction is performed in conjunction with a tummy tuck or an arm lift, both procedures work to remove bulk and tighten the skin and give a shapelier silhouette to the body. Fat Transfer to the Buttocks (also known as a Brazilian Butt Lift) is taking the excess fat removed during liposuction and then placing that fat in the needed areas of the buttocks for overall volume enhancement and for improving shape. Others may also benefit from liposuction when performed during a body lift or a mommy makeover.
As with any surgery, being in optimal health is very important. Although the chances are low, there are potential risks that accompany liposuction which are minimized if you are healthy. Along with being free from any serious medical conditions, it is critical that you do not smoke leading up to your liposuction procedure. Dr. Ravi also advises against the use of Aspirin or Ibuprofen (or other NSAIDs) prior to and after surgery for a certain amount of time.
Liposuction is not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle and it is imperative that you keep up good habits. To be a good candidate for liposuction, you should be relatively close to your goal weight and have reasonable expectations. You also need to be committed to taking care of yourself in the long-run—liposuction is only as successful as you allow it to be. You will need to commit to healthy habits like a balanced diet and regular exercise both before and after liposuction in order to maintain your weight and have long-lasting results.
Although many people have their 2018 resolution of losing weight, liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It is mainly intended to rid the body of isolated pockets of fat that have been difficult to lose with just diet and exercise alone. Keep in mind that Dr. Ravi can only safely remove a certain amount of fat per treatment.
